It was commissioned in 1955. It was 59,600 tons in standard displacement, and 1,076 ft (328 m) long, about the size of current nuclear carriers. It has an angled deck. This has two advantages. Airplanes can land on the angled deck at right, and take off from for forward part of the flight deck at the same time.
